Chablis!

Chablis!

I am a white wine drinker by choice.  I like sunshine in my glass.  I drink all wines because I am a wine lover, but if I am not drinking in my professional capacity, I prefer a nice dry to off-dry white.

This past weekend I had a beautifully steely Chablis paired with oysters.  Let me say, it was absolutely delicious. 100% Chardonnay grapes.

A classic Chablis nose of green fruit, ocean breeze and iodine a prelude for delicious flavors that have delicate minerality.  Clean and dry finish.  A very good example of the terrior - classic Chablis.  Enjoy!

Kendall-Jackson... Where the Journey Began

Okay I admit it, I have not always known about wine!

My first experience with wine was on a business trip in my twenties and my boss ordered a Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay.

When the server asked me what I was having (not knowing anything about wine), I said “I will also have a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay". Now, mind you I had no idea what I was ordering or what would come in the glass I had just ordered.  The name Kendall-Jackson made such an impression on me that I ordered Kendall-Jackson every single time for the next 8 years. What changed after 8 years??? Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post on how I realized there were other wines in the world.

So, I guess I can thank Kendall-Jackson for starting me on my wine journey. Just so you know, I did just that... yes I tweeted Kendall-Jackson that they were my first Chardonnay, actually my first real wine.  Kendall-Jackson actually tweeted me back. Wow, the winery of the first wine I ever tasted tweeted me back J.

So today I pay homage to Kendall-Jackson for starting on my wine quest. Glasses up a toast to Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay.

A Toast to Brad and Angelina

Miraval – do you know that name?  Well, if not, it is the wine venture of actor and actresses Brad Pitt with Angelina Jolie now married (YEAH)!!! This venture is joined with the famous Perrin family of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Talk about a sell-out crowd, the first 6,000-bottle run sold out within five hours.

Grapes used in production are Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Syrah. It is a beautiful bouquet.

I actually experienced this beautiful Rose for the first time after Angela and Brad were married. I toasted the happy couple with a glass from their very own Chateau.  Join me in a toast to the newlyweds.

2014 Pinot Days Tasting: June 21, San Francisco

It's June, and that means one thing when it comes to wine in San Francisco: Pinot Noir. For the past 10 years, June has played host to PinotDays, a celebration of the grape that brings wineries and wine lovers together for a couple of days of tasting and education.

There was a time when San Francisco had no large-scale tasting of Pinot Noir, but those days seem a distant memory, now in a post-Sideways world. Every year pinot_days_logo.gifmembers of the wine-drinking public can spend an afternoon wandering in a sea of Pinot Noir, as 80 different producers (primarily California, but also Oregon and France) offer their wines for the tasting.

On Friday the 20th of June, various wineries will be present for a "Table Hop" dinner at The City Club, where winemakers will move from table to table with each course of the meal to meet guests and talk about their wines.

Then on Saturday, a couple of hours before the grand tasting, a sit-down seminar will be offered for those holding VIP, early entrance tickets. Various other events will be held that weekend, so check out the full listing on the event web site.

All of the events are available as part of packaged deals, or a la carte, for your pleasure. At the very least, if you love Pinot Noir, it's hard to think of a better way to spend a few hours than wandering around tasting great juice with a gorgeous view of San Francisco.
